How the 90/180 rule is counted

Visitors from outside the EU can spend at most 90 days in any 180-day period across all 29 Schengen countries. On any given day, look back over the last 180 days, including today, and count every day you spent in the Schengen area. Entry and exit days both count as full days. The window rolls forward each day, so there's no fixed reset date.

Days in the UK, Ireland and Cyprus don't count. Days in a Schengen country where you hold a long-stay visa or residence permit generally don't count either. For the full rules, read the Schengen 90/180 rule, explained, or Schengen rules for UK citizens.

Frequently asked questions

How does the Schengen 90/180 calculator work?

Add the dates you entered and left the Schengen area. For the date you pick, it looks back over the previous 180 days, counts every day you were in Schengen — entry and exit days included — and subtracts that from 90.

Do entry and exit days both count?

Yes. Under the 90/180 rule, the day you arrive and the day you leave each count as a full day, whatever time you cross the border.

Does the 180-day period reset?

No. The window rolls forward one day at a time. Days only stop counting once they're more than 180 days in the past.

Which countries count toward the 90 days?

All 29 Schengen countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. Ireland, Cyprus and the UK don't count.

Is my data stored anywhere?

No. The calculation runs in your browser. Your dates are only saved on this device so they're still there next time you visit.

Not legal advice. This calculator follows the standard 90/180 rule. Bilateral agreements, visas and residence permits can change what applies to you. The European Commission's official short-stay calculator is the reference at the border.
